Bees With Nature

Bees need food, water and shelter. They love plants which are rich in nectar and pollen. Nectar contains sugar for energy, while pollen contains protein and oils – forming a balanced diet.  Here is our small Bee garden at our home apiary where we get to enjoy watching the daily activities of our bees!

All About Raw Honey:How Is It DifferentThan Regular Honey?

Raw honey is best described as honey “as it exists in the beehive.” It is extracted from the beehive, strained and poured straight into the bottle, bypassing commercial processing methods.

Most of the honey you find in grocery stores is pasteurized. The high heat kills  yeast, can improve the color and texture, removes any crystallization and eliminates beneficial nutrients like pollen, enzymes and antioxidants.

Health Benefits of Honey

Honey has been linked to some impressive health benefits. Honey contains mostly sugar, as well as a mix of amino acids, vitamins, minerals, iron, zinc and antioxidants.  In addition to its use as a natural sweetener, honey is used as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial agent.

Raw honey has been used as a remedy throughout history and has a variety of health benefits and medical uses. It’s even used in some hospitals as a treatment for wounds. Many of these health benefits are specific to raw, or unpasteurized, honey. Visit  Mayo Clinic here, for more information !

We Need Bees

Bees are a keystone species; Honey bees alone pollinate 80 percent of all flowering plants, including more than 130 types of fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately, bee populations have dropped alarmingly across North America, as have the populations of many other pollinator species.  If bees die off it will end most life. In nature, various animals depend on bees for their survival because their food sources – nuts berries, seeds, and fruits – rely on bee pollination. Pollination also allows floral growth, which provides habitats for animals, including other insects and birds. Lastly, bees themselves, and the honey they produce, are a source of food for many animals, including us!  We help the bees, the bees give us honey and we sell the honey to you!
